About the Role

Cornwall School Nursing and Health Visiting Teams are offering a great opportunity to join our teams as a Community Nurse. 

We provide evidence based, family centred, public health service, which focuses on identifying health needs and vulnerability within the family and community. This is a great opportunity to join us in developing a fully integrated service with our other children’s Council colleagues in Together for Families to meet the needs of the local communities and to ensure there are improved outcomes for all our children and young people.

The role of the Community Nurse is to support the Health Visiting and School Nursing Teams in the delivery of a community public health nursing service. You will works as a member of the Health Team and will be based in a geographical locality and linked to local General Practices/Family Hubs and schools in the area.

  • You will take delegated work and be responsible for your own caseload,  having a degree of autonomy over your diary and workload planning.  You will be providing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the Healthy Child Programme,
  • We offer a supportive supervision framework where you will be supported with your clinical caseload management, safeguarding children supervision and clinical restorative supervision.
  • We offer an extensive training and development programme, including a preceptorship package for those of you who are newly qualified.
  • We have an excellent career pathway within our service.  We are keen to support and develop our own staff wishing to develop over the pathway.
  • We support those interested in progressing to the Band 6 Specialist Community Public Health Nurse. We support our Community Nurses to achieve the appropriate CPD and experience to apply for the course, over a period of approximately 2 years dependant on your previous experience and transferrable knowledge and skills.
  • With this qualification we continue to support you to apply for our Band 7 Professional Lead roles, Team,  Practice Teacher roles, and other specialist Health Visitor roles such as in Infant Feeding,  Peri Mental Health Specialist and Safeguarding Children.
  • We offer continued support with appropriate CPD and experience to apply for Band 8 Senior Leadership and Management roles such as Service Manager roles for School Nursing, Health Visiting and Named Nurse for Safeguarding.

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

 

This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.  

 

Whilst the location/work-base for this role has been specified, our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g. from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.

About you

You should be an experienced Registered Nurse with experience of working with children and families. You will be working in community settings within Health Visiting and will hold a delegated caseload, therefore time management and prioritisation skills are essential. You should be able to work alone and in a team with an ability to maintain electronic records.
