Cornwall Council Trading Standards are looking for a new member of the team to join them in the fight to protect consumers from frauds and scams, while ensuring that legitimate local businesses can thrive. The post is for a fixed term of 12 months.

If you’re someone that has some experience working within a regulatory or investigatory environment, or perhaps you have strong project skills or an eye for detail, then this could be the role for you.

The Fair Trading Team is comprised of a group of consumer protection specialists, responsible for tackling scams, doorstep crime, counterfeiting, illegal tobacco and age-restricted sales. The team has a strong track record in preventing, investigating and prosecuting cases of consumer fraud and unfair business practices.

This entry level post will give you the opportunity to deliver a wide variety of consumer focussed interventions, such as supporting investigations, taking witness statements, providing scam victim support, and giving business advice and inspecting premises.

Ideally you will have some knowledge of the role of Trading Standards and/or relevant experience in working within a similar regulatory discipline; although consideration will be given to those looking to develop experience in this area. You will need a good standard of English & Maths at GCSE (or equivalent) and preferably educated to degree level.

As elements of the role will relate to use of databases and the MS Office suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.), a high standard of ICT skills is desirable.

This post will be subject to a basic DBS check.

Please view the role profile here, your application will need to demonstrate how you meet the required criteria. Please ensure you answer all of the pre-screening questions in full, within the application form.

Whilst the location/work-base for this role has been specified, our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g. from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract due to additional funding.

This position will be subject to a criminal record disclosure check.
